Men's Indoor Track & Field Competes At Springfield Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Connecticut College men's indoor track & field team competed at Springfield College on Saturday afternoon. 

The Camels performed well in the non-scoring event featuring some of the top Division III teams in the country. Conn had two individual winners and nine top-5 finishes during the competitive meet. 

Senior Matt Carter (Manchester, Mass.) won the 3k, crossing the line in 8:29.21, more than 15 seconds faster than the runner-up in the event. As a result of his performance, Carter qualified for the New England Division III Championships. His time ranks in the top-50 in all of Division III this season.

Teammate Ethan Bush (Hanover, Mass.) finished third in the same event. He also qualified for the regional championships next weekend.

In the 800, the Camels earned three of the top-five spots. Jonathan Norton (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) finished as the runner-up, recording a time of 1:58.96. Teammates Bennett MacDougall (Wellesley, Mass.) and Joao Ferreira (Lisbon, Portugal) placed fourth and fifth respectively. All three qualified for the regional championships.

Blake Rogers (Riverside, R.I.) and Chris Davis (Durstable, Mass.) were the top-two finishers in the 5k. Rogers recorded a career-best time of 15:24.57.

Senior Chris Verstandig (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and sophomore Jacob Bright also recorded runner-up finishes. Verstandig placed second in the one-mile run with a time of 4:23.47. Bright crossed the line 2:44.53 in the 1k, finishing behind Springfield's Aidan Harmer.

On the field side, Jayson Firmin (Dedham, Mass.) came in fifth in the triple jump, recording a measurement of 12.31 meters.

Connecticut College will be back in action next weekend for the New England Division III Championships in Boston, Mass.
