3/18/2023 5:14:00 PM

ERIE, Pa. -- First year Gigi Sandull (Kenilworth, N.J.) and senior Maria Sell (San Mateo, Calif.) combined for 10 goals to lead the Connecticut College women's water polo team to a wild, 17-16 victory over Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon.

Playing in their second game of the day at the regional tournament in Erie, Pennsylvania, the Camels avenged an earlier loss to Washington & Jefferson by putting up a season-high 17 goals against the host school.

Conn outscored Penn State Behrend 5-3 in the opening quarter thanks to an early hat trick from Sell. After the successful opening period, the Camels would lead the Lions for the duration of the game.

The two teams jockeyed back-and-forth in the middle two periods. The two teams combined for nine total goals each in the two frames. First year Emma Luna (Wahiawa, Hawaii) was a big part of the success of Conn, tallying a pair of scores, while Sandull was intregral in the third quarter, also scoring two goals.

In the fourth, the hosts were able to outscore the visitors, but the Camels held strong in the end to seal the 17-16 victory.

With the win, Conn improved to 3-4 this season, while the Lions dropped to 0-14.

Conn College will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the regional tournament.
