UTICA, N.Y. — Connecticut College opened a four-game CWPA weekend series with a pair of wins—defeating Penn State University Behrend by a 20-9 final and topping Washington & Jefferson College by a 16-9 tally—on Saturday afternoon at Utica University Pool.

Gigi Sandull (Kenilworth, N.J.) paved the way with 17 goals and five assists in the two games. Maria Sell (San Mateo, Calif.) added five goals and eight assists while Emma Luna (Wahiawa, Hawaii) contributed five goals and two helpers. Sarah Franco (Weston, Conn.) picked up both wins in goal and finished with a combined 13 saves.

With the two wins, the Camels vaulted to the top of the CWPA East Region standings with a 5-1 record in league play. The victory over Washington & Jefferson was particularly crucial, as Conn avenged its only conference loss and bumped the Presidents from the top spot.

In the first match of the day, Conn outscored PSU Behrend in all four quarters en route to its biggest margin of victory of the season. Sandull netted eight goals and dished out three assists to lead the offense, which piled up a season-high 20 goals before the final whistle. Sell added four goals and four assists while Luna, Melia Lorch (Encinitas, Calif.) and Brooke Brandenburger (Sacramento, Calif.) chipped in two goals apiece.

The goals kept coming in the nightcap as the Camels jumped out to a 5-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. Conn led 8-5 at the break but outscored the Presidents 8-4 in the second half to sew up the win. Sandull netted nine goals to cap her monster day while Luna tacked on three scores.

Conn College (7-5 overall) will wrap up the weekend with matches against Grove City College and Utica University on Sunday, April 2.
