NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Connecticut College women's water polo team dropped its regular season finale against Iona College on Wednesday evening by a 19-9 final at Lott Natatorium.

The Camels fell behind 5-0 in the opening quarter and never recovered. With the victory, Iona swept the season series and improved to 14-11 overall. Jordan van Reeken paced the Gaels with four goals in the contest.

Conn, which fell to 9-7 on the year, got goals from four players in the setback. Gigi Sandull (Kenilworth, N.J.) led the way with four tallies and added a pair of steals. Ainsley Cornwall (San Mateo, Calif.) and Maria Sell (San Anselmo, Calif.) added two goals apiece while Melia Lorch (Encinitas, Calif.) also found the back of the cage.

A goal by Sandull in the final seconds of the first quarter got Conn on the scoreboard at 5-1. The Camels added a pair of goals in the second—another by Sandull, followed by Sell's first of the game—but saw the Gaels widen their lead to 8-3 by halftime.

Early in the third quarter, goals by Sandull and Sell cut the deficit to 9-5. Iona responded with three straight tallies to pad the margin, but the Camels fired back with three straight of their own. Cornwall provided two goals during the stretch, which trimmed Iona's lead back to four at 12-8.

The Gaels scored a late goal in the third and tacked on the first five scores of the fourth to pull away. Van Reeken scored twice in the final period to help secure the win.

Sarah Franco (Weston, Conn.) finished with nine saves in goal and also added two steals and an assist.

Conn College will next compete at the 2023 CWPA Division III Championship on April 21-23 in St. Paul, Minn. The second-seeded Camels will face either Wittenberg or Utica in their opening contest.
