Men's LAX Comes Up Short at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team suffered a 12-10 setback to Trinity College on Wednesday night in NESCAC play at Jessee/Miller Field.

Following a back-and-forth first half, Trinity closed the third quarter with four unanswered goals and led 11-7 heading into the fourth. Conn fired back with three goals early in the fourth but couldn't complete the comeback, and the Bantams nursed a two-goal lead to the final horn.

Jared Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) paced the Camels with three goals—his fourth hat trick of the season—while JJ Ford (Clinton, Conn.) added a pair. Trinity's Harrison Ike led all scorers with five goals.

The two sides traded blows in the opening quarter, with the hosts responding each time the Camels grabbed the lead. Rainville scored 40 seconds into the game to put Conn on the scoreboard early, but Harrison fired back less than a minute later. The Bantams did the same later in the period following goals by Bobby Chang (South Salem, N.Y.) and Colter Lingelbach-Pierce (Etna, N.H.).

The roles reversed in the second quarter as Trinity played from in front. After Peter Cannon scored just 15 seconds into the stanza to give the Bantams their first lead of the night, Ford evened things up with his first tally off a feed from Patrick Atkins (Topsfield, Mass.). Later, Lingelbach-Pierce found Jack Tenzer (Charlotte, N.C.) for a goal that evened the score at 5-5.

Trinity made it a two-goal game with back-to-back scores from Harrison and Ethan Cobb with 4:37 left in the half. Ford added his second goal of the period in the final minutes of the period to cut the deficit to 7-6 at intermission.

Conn pulled even again early in the second half thanks to a goal from Atkins, but the rest of the quarter belonged to the Bantams. Trinity scored four goals in the final 8:27 of the period to take an 11-7 advantage into the fourth.

Rainville got the Camels back on track with a pair of scores in the first 2:16 of the fourth. Less than five minutes later, Liam Horkan (Malden, Mass.) cut the deficit to one off an assist by Aidan McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.).

Conn continued to press for the equalizer, but Trinity goalie Cooper Yaccino was the difference down the stretch. He made nine of his 21 saves in the fourth quarter to protect the lead.

Will Rice (New Rochelle, N.Y.) kept the Camels within striking distance down the stretch, finishing the game with 12 saves in the cage.

Conn College (4-4 overall, 2-3 NESCAC) will next host No. 2 Tufts University on Saturday, April 8 at noon.
