DEDHAM, Mass. – Six members of the Connecticut College men's and women's track & field teams competed at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships on the campus of Northeastern University over the weekend.
The event featured over 30 teams on both the men's and women's sides from Division I, II, and III. The men's squad scored 13 points, while the women's team recorded two points overall.
Senior Erica MacSweeney (Canton, Mass.) competed in both the 400-meter hurdles and triple jump. She clocked in with a time of 1:05.14 in the prelims of the 400 hurdles and finished 12th overall. She fared better in the triple jump, where her mark of 11.41 meters was good for seventh place and two points.
Teammate Alexa Estes (Virginia Beach, Va.) raced in the 800, recording a personal-best time of 2:15.14 and finishing 16th overall.
On the men's side, junior
Chris Koskinen (Yarmouth, Maine) broke his own school record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.95 meters on his second attempt. The fourth-place finish netted five points for the Camels and qualified Koskinen for the upcoming NCAA Championship.
The senior duo of
Matt Carter (Manchester, Mass.) and
Joe Walewski (Fairfield, Conn.) raced in the 10k. Carter finished as runner-up and produced the fastest time by a DIII runner, crossing the line in 30:10.40 for eight points. Walewski recorded a time of 33:39.97 and placed 24th overall.
Senior
Chris Verstandig (Slingerlands, N.Y.) rounded out the Camels in action, logging a personal best in the 1,500. He finished in 11th place with a time of 3:54.91.
Select members of the Connecticut College track & field teams will compete at a pair of final qualifying meets next week. Williams hosts a qualifier on Wednesday evening and MIT welcomes top student-athletes a day later.
