NEW LONDON, Conn. – Women's track & field standout Malissa Lindsey and men's soccer players Steve Yeonas and Augie Djerdjaj were among the student-athletes who were presented with major awards at the 2023 Connecticut College Senior Athletic Awards Reception last week.
The event, which was held Friday evening in Palmer Auditorium, celebrated the achievements of the senior class over the past four years. Eight student-athletes and one administrator were recognized with major awards.
In addition to Lindsey, Yeonas and Djerdjaj, other awards were given to Andy Strickler (admissions), MJ Peters (sports information), Angela Cao (women's squash), Jackie Puda (women's soccer), Vaughn Ammon (women's swimming & diving) and Matt Carter (men's cross country/track & field).
Connecticut College Major Award Winners
Anita L. DeFrantz Award (Top Female Student-Athlete): Malissa Lindsey (Track & Field)
Established in 1995 by Kathryn Smith '84 and given to the female member of the graduating class whose athletic ability, leadership, and sportsmanship best exemplify the qualities of Olympic medalist Anita L. DeFrantz '74.

Established in 1995 by Kathryn Smith '84 and given to the male member of the graduating class whose athletic ability, leadership, and sportsmanship best exemplify the qualities of Olympic medalist Anita L. DeFrantz '74.
Brown/Brooks Award (Top Female Scholar-Athlete): Vaughn Ammon (Swimming & Diving)
Established by the class of 1984 and given to the outstanding female student-athlete who best represents the graduating class in scholarship, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Brown/Brooks Award (Top Male Scholar-Athlete): Matt Carter (Cross Country, Track & Field)
Established by the class of 1984 and given to the outstanding male student-athlete who best represents the graduating class in scholarship, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Erica M. Bos Award (Inspiration): Jackie Puda (Soccer)
Established in 1990 to honor an athlete whose courage, motivation, and relentless determination serve as an inspiration to others.
Andrew H. Chait Award (Service): Andy Strickler (Admissions), MJ Peters (Sports Information) & Angela Cao (Squash)
Established in 1986 to honor a member of the College community who has shown outstanding service and commitment to the Connecticut College Department of Athletics.
