Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Jaran's Late Strike Leads Men's Soccer Past No. 15 Babson 2-1

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Connecticut College men's soccer team hit the road to take on No. 15 Babson College, defeating the host Beavers 2-1. With the win, Conn improves to 4-0-2 on the year, while Babson falls to 5-3-1.

It was a cagey opening 45 minutes, as both sides used the first half to feel each other out. Conn (4-0-2) got the first shot of the game just under 20 minutes into the contest, but Matt Quiros-Newton's (Alajuela, Costa Rica) effort went wide. Babson (5-3-1) responded with the next five shots, but Peter Silvester (Smiths Parish, Bermuda) made three saves. With under nine minutes left in the half, Rye Jaran (Downington, Pa.) forced the first save from the Beavers, but the sides remained scoreless heading into the break.

Early in the second half, the Camels broke the scoreless draw as Sam Boehm's (Lexington, Mass.) corner found the head of Marco Cerezo (Malaga, Spain) who guided it home to put Conn up 1-0 at 53:34. Following the opener, Babson had a few chances, but nothing troubled Silvester too much. The game got chippy midway through the second half, as Alessandro Horvath Diano (Budapest, Hungary) along with two Beavers were all sent their marching orders having been given red cards.

With just under 10 minutes remaining, Babson found an equalizer on a goal from Liam Rhatigan. However, it took just a minute and a half for the Camels to retake the lead as Jaran settled a bouncing ball and rifled it under the crossbar to put Conn up 2-1 at 81:36.

Conn held the advantage on shots, outshooting Babson 14-9 overall, holding a 9-4 edge on shots on goal, while the Beavers earned five free kicks to the Camels three. The teams also combined for 11 cards in the match, with Conn being shown two yellows and one red, while Babson was shown six yellows and two reds.

Silvester earned the win between the sticks, making three saves in 90 minutes of action. Jaran and Cerezo both tallied a goal, and Boehm added an assist. Elliot Spatz (Bellevue, Wash.) recorded four total shots, while he and Jaran both put three shots on target.

Walker White got the start in goal for Babson, making seven saves on nine shots. Rhatigan tallied the lone goal, while McKenzy Pierre added an assist.

The Camels return home for a quick one game stop, as Conn hosts Western New England on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. on Freeman Field.
