Men's Water Polo Falls to Iona 23-7

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Connecticut College men's water polo team hit the road for the first time this season, falling to host Iona 23-7 on Saturday in New Rochelle, N.Y. With the loss, Conn falls to 1-3 on the year, while Iona improves to 5-6. 

Iona (5-6) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, before Conn (1-3) got on the board at 6:32. Cormac Stevens (Philadelphia, Pa.) tallied two straight goals to cut the deficit to 3-2 with 3:47 to play in the first quarter. The Gaels tallied the next two goals to push the lead to 5-2, before Jeffrey Harrington (San Diego, Calif.) beat the buzzer to make it a 5-3 game after the first quarter. Iona tallied eight goals in the second quarter, with the Camels tallying just two. Stevens and Jesse Ellis (Fresno, Calif.) found the back of the net for Conn, as the Gaels led 13-5 at the break.

Iona continued their strong play in the third quarter, outscoring Conn 7-2, to push the lead to 20-7, heading to the fourth quarter. Ellis and Carson Neidert (West Palm Beach, Fla.) tallied for the Camels in the third quarter. Iona tallied the final three goals of the contest in the fourth quarter, to come away with a 23-7 win.

Sebastian Parilov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) got the start in goal for Conn, making five saves in the contest. Stevens and Ellis both recorded multi-goal games, with Stevens tallying three goals and Ellis adding two goals.

Iona had 11 different players record a goal, while Aleksandar Slavkovic and Diego Gomez both saw action in goal for the Gaels.

Conn heads down south for two games, taking on the Naval Academy on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Annapolis, Md., before taking on Johns Hopkins on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in Baltimore, Md.
