BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Connecticut College women's basketball team dropped a 57-42 final to No. 21 Bowdoin College on Friday night in a NESCAC showdown at Morrell Gymnasium.
Maria Belardi netted a game-high 15 points off the bench as the Polar Bears improved to 19-1 overall and 6-0 in league action. Jess Giorgio added 13 points as Bowdoin shot 36 percent from the floor.
The Camels were held to just 30-percent shooting on the night.
Addi Hunter (Saint George, Vt.) paced Conn with 10 points, four rebounds and two steals in the setback.
The two sides played a tight opening quarter that featured four lead changes and three ties.
Aislinn McMahon (Andover, Mass.) and
Avery Burns (Orleans, Mass.) each drilled a three-pointer in the period to keep the Camels close.
Bowdoin, which led 12-10 after the first, outscored Conn 16-2 in the final 4:34 of the second quarter to open up a 36-20 lead at the break. Giorgio had six points during the stretch and led all scorers with 10 points at intermission.
Conn couldn't make up any ground in the third quarter and trailed by as many as 21. In the fourth, the Camels cut the deficit to 14 before Bowdoin snuffed out any thoughts of a comeback with back-to-back threes.
Conn shot 30 percent for the game and connected on just 2-for-18 from long range. Bowdoin owned a 48-29 edge on the glass and shot 36 percent from the floor.
Conn College (5-13 overall, 0-5 NESCAC) will next play at Colby College on Sunday, January 28 at 1:00 p.m.
