WORCESTER, Mass. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey came up short, falling to Assumption University 3-2 on Tuesday night from the Worcester Ice Center. With the loss, Conn falls to 7-9-2 while Assumption improves to 20-4-0.

Assumption (20-4-0) started quickly jumping out to an early lead. Just 2:24 Jimmy McDermott found the net to put the Greyhounds up 1-0. Following the opening goal, Conn (7-9-2) was awarded a power play, but the Camels were unable to convert. Late in the period, at 16:13 Cole Eichler (King, Ontario) tied the game at one, as Kei Yasuda (Nagoya, Japan) picked up the assist. Neither side tallied over the final four minutes, as the game was 1-1 after one.

Both teams had plenty of opportunities in the middle frame to take the lead, but both Cam Fernandez (Fairfield, Conn.) and Clement Labillois were sharp. Conn had two power plays in the period, while Assumption had one, but the score remained tied at one heading to the third period.

6:35 into the period, the Greyhounds retook the lead on a goal from Sean Donoghue. However, just 19 seconds later, the Camels tied the game back up, as Quinn Kennedy (Silver Spring, Md.) found the back of the net off an assist from John Russo (South Windsor, Conn.). Two minutes later, Assumption jumped back in front, 3-2 on a tally from Jonathan Surrette. Conn pushed to tie the game and pulled Fernandez in the final minute. The Camels however, were unable to find the equalizer, coming up short 3-2.

Conn outshot Assumption 48-42, while Greyhounds held a slim 36-34 edge on face-off wins.

Fernandez made his first start of the season, finishing with 39 saves on 42 shots. Eichler and Kennedy each recorded a goal, while Russo and Yasuda both added an assist. Steven Ardagna (Roswell, Ga.), Logan Cleary (Mentor, Ohio), and Kennedy all tallied five shots on goal. Seth Stadheim (Lyme, N.H.) led the way in the circle, winning 10 of 16 draws, while the Camels went 6-6 on the penalty kill and 0-5 on the power play.

Labillois got the nod in net, stopping 46 shots. Eight Greyhounds recorded one point, as Donoghue, McDermott, and Surrette each recorded a goal. Assumption finished 0-6 on the power play and 5-5 on the penalty kill.

Conn heads to Medford, Mass. to take on Tufts on Friday night, at 7:00 p.m. in the first half of the home-and-home weekend series with the Jumbos.
