BOSTON, Mass. – Sean Dynan (Reading, Mass.) stopped all 41 shots he faced as the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team took down host UMass Boston to take home the 58th Annual Codfish Bowl trophy 3-0. With the win, Conn improves to 4-5-2 on the year, while UMass Boston falls to 5-8-2.
Umass Boston (5-8-2) started quickly, firing off the first three shots, inside the opening 25 seconds of the contest. Conn (4-5-2) got their first shot 45 seconds in, but Rocco Testa-Basi (Holland Patent, N.Y.) but his effort was turned aside. The Beacons looked strong for the rest of the period, outshooting the Camels 18-7 in the frame, but Dynan was fantastic in the opening frame, as the game was scoreless after one.
Conn came out in the middle frame strong, firing off the first 15 shots of the period. After killing off a penalty, the Camels opened the scoring after a nice breakout between Kei Yasuda (Nagoya, Japan) and Michael DiMascolo (Cranston, R.I.). DiMascolo fed Will Winship (Andover, Mass.), who entered the zone and played a drop pass back to DiMascolo who fired it over the shoulder to make it 1-0 at 10:25. Dynan stayed strong, as Conn led 1-0 heading to the third.
Opening the third period on the power play, Kareem Alazem (McLean, Va.) wristed a shot from the point that squeaked through Sam Best, as Andrew Eberling (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and Quinn Kennedy (Silver Spring, Md.) earned the assists, making it 2-0, 49 seconds in. With just over six minutes remaining, Dynan came up with a huge stop on Chris Repmann, to keep the Beacons off the board. Boston pulled their goalie with just over two minutes left for the extra attacker, but Dynan and the Camels defense held strong, before Cole Eichler (King, Ontario) put the puck into the empty net, with one second left, as Conn came away with the 3-0 win.
Boston outshot Conn 41-29, while both teams won 36 face-offs.
Dynan was fantastic in goal, stopping all 41 shots faced. Seven Camels recorded one point in the contest, as Alazem, Eichler, and DiMascolo each tallied a goal, while Eberling, Kennedy, Winship, and Yasuda all added one assist. John Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) won 12 of 20 face-offs, while Seth Stadheim (Lyme, N.H.) collected 11 wins on 20 draws, to pace Conn. The Camels finished the afternoon 3-3 on the penalty kill and 1-3 on the power play.
Best got the start in goal, finishing with 26 saves. Kevin Sadovski led Boston with six shots on goal, while the Beacons went 0-3 on the power play and 2-3 on the penalty kill.
Conn stays out on the road, heading to Clinton, N.Y. for a conference showdown to take on Hamilton College on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
