Women's Rowing Caps Fall Season at Wormtown Chase

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's rowing team wrapped up the fall season with a strong showing at the Wormtown Chase Regatta on Saturday morning at Lake Quinsigamond.

The Camels put a total of five boats in the water—four in the collegiate 4+ event and one in the novice 4+. Conn secured finishes of fifth, ninth, 10th and 12th in the collegiate field and took first place in the novice race.

Conn's top varsity boat of Emily Fairfield (Burke, Va.), Ruth Schmidt (South Pasadena, Calif.), Eldana Zhakypbaeva (Schaumburg, Ill.), Sadie Joseph (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and coxswain Cecilia Duffield (Brookline, Mass.) crossed the finish in 22:25.58. The Camels trailed only Amherst and Holy Cross in the field of 16.

Conn's newcomers took first place in the novice event with a time of 24:30.55. The Camels bested runner-up Wesleyan by 14 seconds and also finished ahead of Maine, New Hampshire and Mass Maritime.
