WELLESLEY, Mass – The Connecticut College men's swimming and diving team opened the 2024-25 season with a 179-117 setback against No. 20 Coast Guard Academy on Saturday afternoon at Wellesley College's Chandler Pool.
The Camels won six events in their return to competitive action.
Justin Finkel (Cheshire, Conn.) and
Cam Bizjak (Willoughby, Ohio) both turned in a pair of wins, and newcomers
Carrick Shea (Grafton, Mass.) and
Jack Mattison-Gulotta (Florence, Mass.) each contributed a victory in their collegiate debuts.
Finkel hit the pool for the first time since last year's NCAA Championship and won the 50 free (21.01) and 100 fly (49.57). He also had a runner-up finish in the 200 free (1:42.08).
Bizjak won both the 1M and 3M diving competitions, finishing with scores of 349.85 and 356.40, respectively. He also achieved the first of two qualifying scores needed for NCAA Regionals.
Shea won the 100 breast (58.35) by less than a second to claim his first collegiate victory. Mattison-Gulotta did the same in the 200 fly (1:52.36), overcoming an early deficit to win by nine-tenths of a second.
Conn will next compete at Middlebury College on Saturday, November 23 at 1:00 p.m.
