TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The No. 24 Connecticut College women's cross country team finished 23rd in the field of 32 teams at the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course.
The Camels, making their second-straight NCAA appearance, posted a team score of 531.
Grace McDonough (Londonderry, N.H.) paced Conn with a time of 21:58.0 and finished 53rd overall.
MIT won the team title with five runners finishing in the top-40. The Engineers (128 points) bested runner-up University of Chicago by 10 points. Wilmington's Faith Duncan took individual medalist honors in style, winning by more than 40 seconds with a time of 20:16.5.
McDonough ran a strong race for the Camels and steadily moved up the leader board throughout. She passed 72 runners between the 3K and 5K checkpoints, and over the final 1,000 meters she made up 20 more spots to push into the top-55 in the field of 290 runners.
Kiera Tallas (Fountain Valley, Calif.) was the next Camel across the finish line, crossing in 22:28.1 to finish 120th overall.
Abby Fernald (Avon, Conn.) and
Abby Williams (Waterville, Maine) also broke the 23-minute barrier with times of 22:34.3 and 22:58.3, respectively, to finish 137th and 196th.
Alsacia Timmerman (Morrisville, Vt.) rounded out Conn's top-5 with a time of 23:14.8 to place 223rd.
Addie Fuller (Eliot, Maine) and
April Schilling (Amherst, Mass.) both made their NCAA debut. Fuller clocked in at 23:55.8 and finished 270th while Schilling placed 282nd in 24:19.2.
In the men's race, Conn College senior Matt Scardigno (Port Washington, N.Y.) competed as an individual and finished 54th in 24:54.9. At the 1K checkpoint he was 152nd overall but kept moving up the field of 294 runners. By the 5K mark he was in 70th, and before the finish line he made up 16 more spots to climb into the top-55.
