POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Connecticut College women's squash team picked up their first win of the season, defeating Vassar 9-0, before falling to Haverford 5-4.
Conn won all seven matches that were contested against Vassar, with Isabel Schumacher (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.), Gwyneth Perez (New Haven, Conn.), Miranda Medina (Houston, Texas), Kimberly Lucero (New York, N.Y.), Angelise Ramirez (New Haven, Conn.), and Anna Slopak (Taftville, Conn.) all winning in straight sets. Additionally, Mariam Anwar (Fairfield, Conn.) added the final contested match win, picking a 3-1 decision.
The match against Haverford was tightly contested, as the Fords pulled out the 5-4 victory. At third, fourth, and sixth singles, Perez, Medina, and Lucero all collected straight set victories. The final win for the Camels came from Crystal Dixon (Chicago, Ill.) at fifth singles, who won in a five-set thriller.
Connecticut College (1-3) returns to action tomorrow afternoon, taking on NYU at 1:00 p.m. in Luce Fieldhouse.
