MBB Takes Control in Second Half vs. Roger Williams

NEW LONDON, Conn. – A strong second half led the Connecticut College men's basketball team to an 81-68 victory over Roger Williams University on Sunday afternoon at Luce Field House.

Trailing by two at intermission, the Camels shot 51 percent in the second half and outscored the Hawks by a 50-35 margin. Elias Espinosa (Leonia, N.J.) led four Conn players in double figures with 16 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Cam Schainfeld (Newton, Mass.) and Garrett Clar (Victor, N.Y.) chipped in 14 points apiece while Dylan Watson (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) supplied 13 points and nine boards.

The Hawks got off to a hot start, connecting on their first seven field goal attempts of the game to lead 15-6. Finn Miller netted six points during the stretch while Nate Lopes tacked on five.

Roger Williams led by as many as 14 in the stanza before Conn began to chip away at the deficit. The Camels closed the half with a 14-5 run that included five points apiece from Espinosa and RJ Casey (Nashville, Tenn.), cutting the gap to 33-31 by the break.

Watson scored on Conn's first two possessions of the second half, and the Camels never trailed again. The score remained tight until midway through the period, when the hosts unleashed an 11-0 run to go up 67-52 with 6:54 remaining. Espinosa and Clar both provided a pair of buckets during the stretch.

The Camels pumped the lead to as many as 18 in the final 5:00. Watson, Schainfeld and Clare each netted 10 points in the second half to lead the charge.

Miller finished with a game-high 19 points on 6-for-7 shooting to pace the Hawks, who dropped to 4-2 on the year.

Conn (3-3 overall) will next play at Emmanuel College on Wednesday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m.
