NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team wrapped up the regular season, falling to No. 13 Colby College 3-0 on Saturday afternoon from Dayton Arena. With the loss, Conn falls to 7-11-6 overall and 2-11-3 in NESCAC play, while Colby improves to 16-7-1 overall and 8-7-1 in conference action.
It was a slow start, as neither team was able to get a shot in the opening five minutes. Conn (7-11-6, 2-11-3 NESCAC) got the first shot on net, but Claire Sammons (Naperville, Ill.) had her shot stopped. Colby (16-7-1, 8-7-1 NESCAC) responded with their first shot on goal at 7:02, but Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) made the save. With just under five minutes left in the period, the Mules opened the scoring on a goal from Cailyn Murphy, to lead 1-0 after one.
The teams traded chances throughout the middle frame, but both goalies stood tall. The game remained 1-0 heading to the third period.
Colby fired off the first shot of the period, but Galizio kept Conn alive. However, at 7:47 with the teams playing 4-on-4, Jo Tattersall made it 2-0 for the Mules. The Camels got a power play with just over minutes remaining in regulation, and pulled Galizio, knowing they needed three goals to earn a playoff berth. On the ensuing advantage, Georgia Pettygrove cleared the puck from her end into the empty net, making it 3-0. Conn pushed, but were unable to find the net, falling 3-0 to end the year.
Colby outshot Conn 31-23, while winning 34 of 60 draws.
Galizio ended the season strong in net, stopping 28 of 30 shots. Sydney Frank (Stillwater, N.Y.) and Kiley Smith (Humble, Texas) led Conn with four shots on goal each, while the Camels blocked 14 shots as a team, led by Abby Munger (Trinity, Fla.) and Kylie McCarthy () each blocking three. Sydney Cresta (Swampscott, Mass.) won nine of 18 draws, while Conn went 4-4 on the penalty kill and 0-4 on the power play.
Mandy Busky got the start in goal, stopping all 23 shots. Seven Mules tallied one point, led by Murphy, Pettygrove, and Tattersall all recording one goal, while Colby went 0-4 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill.
