NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey fell to visiting Tufts University 4-0 on Saturday night from Dayton Arena. With the loss, Conn falls to 8-10-2 overall and 6-8-0 in NESCAC play, while Tufts improves to 11-7-2 overall and 8-5-1 in conference action.
Futfs (11-7-2, 8-5-1 NESCAC) came out strong looking to avenge last night's defeat, recording the first five shots of the contest. Conn (8-10-2, 6-8-0 NESCAC) responded with a Rocco Testa-Basi (Holland Patent, N.Y.) but his shot was stopped. Tufts ended the period strong, but Sean Dynan (Reading, Mass.) was up for everything the Jumbos threw at him, as the game remained scoreless after one.
The Camels came out strong to start the middle frame tallying four of the first five shots of the period. During the period, Conn was awarded a five minute power play after a dangerous hit by Tufts, but the Camels were unable to convert with the extra skater. Late in the period, with just under three minutes remaining, the Jumbos finally broke the deadlock, as Tyler Sedlak found the net to make it 1-0 heading to the third.
Early in the third period, Tufts doubled their lead on a second goal from Sedlak at 2:43, making it 2-0. Conn pushed to cut into the deficit, but at 14:24 Harrison Bazianos made it 3-0 for the Jumbos. With just under three minutes left in regulation, the Camels tried to pull Dynan for the extra attacker, but were never able to, as Bazianos netted his second of the game, as Tufts came away 4-0 victors.
Tufts outshot Conn 33-22, while holding a 33-29 edge on face-offs.
Dynan got the nod in goal, recording 29 saves. Quinn Kennedy (Silver Spring, Md.) and Pete Stanger (Bathurst, New Brunswick) paced the Camels with three shots on goal. Conn blocked 16 shots as a team, led by Devon Newhook's (St. John's, Newfoundland) three. Kei Yasuda (Nagoya, Japan) won 12 of 18 draws, while Conn finished 2-2 on the penalty kill and 0-2 on the power play.
Peyton Durand got the start in goal, stopping all 22 shots. Bazianos and Sedlak both recorded two goals, while Max Resnick added two assists. Tufts finished 0-2 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill.
Conn continues their home stand next weekend, as the Camels host Hamilton College on Friday night in a crucial NESCAC matchup at 7:00 p.m. in Dayton Arena.
