No. 23 Men's S&D Cruises Past Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 23 Connecticut College men's swimming and diving team secured a 196.5-90.5 victory over Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at the Webster Family Natatorium.

The Camels turned in a dominant performance, amassing 11 first-place and 15 runner-up finishes over the course of 16 events. Matthew Morris (Alexandria, Va.) and Cam Bizjak (Willoughby, Ohio) each picked up a pair of wins to lead Conn, which improved to 8-2 in head-to-head competition on the year.

Conn set the tone early, nabbing the top three spots in the 1,000 free. Evan Lyons (Longmeadow, Mass.) posted the winning time of 9:38.26 and was trailed by Teddy Batmaca (Amesbury, Mass.) and Jacob Ashley (Kennesaw, Ga.). The Camels then followed with wins from Ian Sullivan (Naples, Fla.) in the 200 free (1:43.36) and Morris in the 100 back (50.64).

Justin Finkel (Cheshire, Conn.) and Andrew Bartolomucci (Milford, N.H.) went 1-2 in the 200 fly, with the former recording a time of 1:52.36. Cooper Voss (Glen Ridge, N.J.) and Will Nash (Chatham, N.J.) then followed suit in the 50 free, with Voss touching the wall first in 22.04.

Bizjak topped teammate Diego Ortiz (Avon, Conn.) in both the 1M and 3M diving competitions. He finished with a score of 448.05 in the 1M and 432.07 in the 3M.

Gabe Frank (Northbrook, Ill.) paced a group of five Conn swimmers in the 100 free with a time of 47.78. Morris picked up his second win in the 200 back (1:50.26), and Matthew Laclef (Bethesda, Md.) rounded out the individual winners in the 500 free (1:50.26). The Camels then wrapped up the meet with a victory in the 200 free relay.

Conn (8-2 overall) will next compete at the NESCAC Championship on February 22-25 at Colby College.
