Men's LAX Nabs First Win of the Season at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I.  – The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team picked up a 19-14 win over Salve Regina University on Monday afternoon in a non-conference match-up at Toppa Field.

The Camels netted a season-high 19 goals on 48 shots, their highest goal total in a game since the 2022 season. Three players recorded a hat trick on the day, with JJ Ford (Clinton, Conn.) leading the way with three goals and two assists.

Conn, which never trailed in the contest, got on the scoreboard on the opening possession thanks to a goal by Declan Kuhn (Fairfield, Conn.). After the Seahawks evened the score just over a minute later, the Camels ripped off five straight goals to take a 6-1 lead. Isaiah Kozub (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored twice during the stretch while Colter Lingelbach-Pierce (Etna, N.H.), Jack Tenzer (Charlotte, N.C.) and Bobby Chang (South Salem, N.Y.) also added tallies.

Ford scored twice in the final 2:40 of the first quarter to give Conn an 8-4 advantage after one. Salve Regina responded with the first three goals of the second period to get within one, but late markers by Chang and Patrick Atkins (Topsfield, Mass.) left the Camels with a 10-8 lead at intermission.

In the third quarter, Conn outscored Salve Regina 5-1 to build a cushion. Liam Horkan (Malden, Mass.) supplied three goals in the period, including a man-up tally that kicked off the run.

The Camels scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter to pad the lead. Both Ford and Kozub completed their hat tricks during the spurt, which left the visitors with an 18-9 advantage.

Goalie Will Rice (New Rochelle, N.Y.) made a season-high 21 saves in nearly 58 minutes of work to earn the win in the cage. Aidan Gaudet (Cheshire, Conn.) went 16-for-27 at the face-off spot and scooped up a game-high six ground balls.

Conn (1-2 overall, 0-2 NESCAC) will next host Bowdoin College on Saturday, March 16 at noon.
