KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced the 2023-24 NABC Division III All-District Teams on Tuesday morning, and Connecticut College senior
David Murray (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) earned first team honors and was named District 1 Player of the Year.
Murray was one of six players to garner first-team status, and one of three players selected from the NESCAC. He was joined by Ben Callahan-Gold (Trinity), Nate Karren (Williams), Jakhi Lucas (SUNY Morrisville), Tyree Mitchell (Saint Joseph) and Aaron Nkrumah (Worcester State).
The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division III. All-America honors will be announced by the NABC on Wednesday.
"This honor for David is a testament to his continued belief in himself and his teammates," said head coach
Tim Sweeney. "It's remarkable how much progress he's made over his four years at Conn. His hard work has played a crucial role in elevating our program's success, and we can't wait to see what he accomplishes next!"
Murray, the 2024 NESCAC Player of the Year, led Conn and ranked among the top five in the NESCAC in scoring (17.7 ppg), rebounding (8.9 rpg) and blocks (2.2 bpg) while shooting 58 percent from the floor this season. The big man's 53 blocked shots led the NESCAC during the regular season and ranked 27th nationally.
In his final season at Conn, Murray recorded career highs in points (425), rebounds (213), blocks and assists (36). He etched his name into Conn's single season records for points (fourth), blocks (fifth), rebounds (sixth) and field goal percentage (sixth).
Murray also stacked up impressive career totals, despite losing his first season to COVID and the bulk of his second to illness. In 67 career games he made 60 starts and amassed 935 points, 508 rebounds, 113 blocks, 90 steals and 76 assists. He ranks second among Conn's all-time leaders in field goal percentage (.573) as well as fourth in blocks and ninth in rebounds.
The Camels turned in one of the best seasons in recent memory, going 18-7 overall and finishing third in the NESCAC with an 8-2 league record. The 18 wins are the most since 2001, and the eight league victories are the most since the NESCAC began championship play in 2000-01.
