ORLANDO, Fla. – The Connecticut College men's tennis team picked up a pair of victories on Wednesday, winning 5-4 against Coe College in the morning before besting Franklin & Marshall College 6-3 in the evening.
Against Coe, the Camels strung together four singles wins and one doubles victory to slip past the Kohawks.
Sigmund Winiecki (Jaffrey, N.H.) bounced back from a first-set loss to win in a third-set tiebreaker at the top spot.
James Serhant III (Hadley, Mass.),
Nikhil Agarwal (San Mateo, Calif.) and
Andy Feldman (Newton, Mass.) all posted straight-set wins, and the duo of
Colby Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) and
Maximo Gulla (Madison, Conn.) added the lone doubles point.
The match against Franklin & Marshall was close throughout. The score was 3-3 after singles action, and the Camels sweated out a sweep of the doubles portion to pull out the victory.
Jared Leong (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia),
Jules Taylor-Kerman (New York, N.Y.), and
Gavin Anderson (Avon, Conn.) each prevailed in singles play. Taylor-Kerman won in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 4, while Leong and Anderson won in straight sets at No. 3 and 6, respectively.
All three doubles matches were decided by tiebreakers. Leong and
Aaron Fleishman (Brookline, Mass.) won 8-6 at the top spot while Taylor-Kerman and Winiecki came out on top 7-4 at No. 2.
Walker Mulligan (Guilford, Conn.) and Serhant completed the sweep with a 7-3 decision at No. 3.
Conn (5-3 overall, 0-3 NESCAC) will wrap up its spring break trip against Colby-Sawyer College on Friday, March 15 at 9:30 a.m.
