ORLANDO, Fla. – The Connecticut College women's tennis team wrapped up its spring break trip by besting Franklin & Marshall College by a 7-2 final on Wednesday evening at Oak Street Community Park.
The Camels started out strong, taking a 2-1 advantage in doubles before tacking on five more wins in singles. Conn went 3-1 on the trip and improved to 4-4 overall on the season.
Conn's top two doubles squads cruised to victories. The No. 1 team of
Courtney Banks (North Haven, Conn.) and
Maya Kowalska (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) won by an 8-2 tally, while
Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine) and
Lily Kerachsky (East Greenwich, R.I.) grabbed an 8-1 win at the No. 2 spot.
All but one of Conn's singles wins came in a third-set tiebreaker. Cass prevailed at the top spot by a 10-6 tiebreaker, and Kowalska battled to an 11-9 win in hers at No. 3. Both
Sana Bhat (New Delhi) and
Mary Ella Prendergast (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) won by 10-5 tiebreaker finals at No. 5 and 6, respectively. Kerachsky was the only Camel to win in straight sets at No. 2, posting a final of 6-3, 6-3.
Conn returns to conference play at home against Bates College on Saturday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m.
