Men's Tennis Shuts Out Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – The Connecticut College men's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches with a 9-0 non-conference victory over Wheaton College on Thursday evening at Beard Field House.

The Camels stayed hot in their first contest back in New England following their unbeaten spring break trip to Florida. Conn blanked its second opponent of the spring, as Jules Taylor-Kerman (New York, N.Y.), Sigmund Winiecki (Jaffrey, N.H.) and Walker Mulligan (Guilford, Conn.) paved the way with a pair of wins apiece.

Conn swept through doubles play to take a 3-0 lead and didn't lose more than four games in any match. The Camels took all six singles matches as well, including four in straight sets.

Taylor-Kerman combined with Winiecki to earn the first point of the match with an 8-1 effort at No. 2 doubles over Paul Berteaux and Jake Murray. Taylor-Kerman later battled Berteaux to a three-set triumph at No. 2 singles, coming back from a set down to win 1-6, 6-0, 6-2. Winiecki needed just two sets to gain a victory at No. 4 singles by a 6-4, 6-4 final over Daniel Bor.

Mulligan teamed with James Serhant III (Hadley, Mass.) to earn an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles against Bor and Calvin Van Dyke. Mulligan also engaged in a three-set grinder with Murray at No. 3 singles. After Mulligan took a 5-2 lead in the deciding set, Murray broke serve twice to knot the frame at 5-5. Mulligan regrouped and won the final two games to clinch the match by a tally of 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.

Aaron Fleishman (Brookline, Mass.) and Jared Leong (Petaling, Jaya, Malaysia) paired at No. 1 doubles to turn in an 8-3 win over Jaime Galligo and Eli Hanlon. Arjun Premkumar (Bangalore, India) had little trouble at No. 1 singles, dropping just two games against Galligo in a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Gavin Anderson (Avon, Conn.) posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles over Van Dyke, and Colby Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) closed out the dual match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles over Jack Thain.

Conn (7-3 overall, 0-3 NESCAC) will next host Bates College on Friday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m.
