WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Connecticut College women's rowing program competed at the Donahue Cup on Saturday morning on Lake Quinsigamond. 

The Donahue Cup was contested between Conn College, Simmons College, WPI and Williams College. Williams was the victor in the cup race this year, a competition has been rowed between the four schools for over 20 years.

Conn placed third in the cup behind WPI. The race was a heat for a grand final race in which the women's varsity 8 placed a very close fifth to Williams, WPI, Mount Holyoke and Clark University and ahead of Washington College from Maryland. It marked the first time in the last five years that the varsity 8 had raced its way into the grand final.  

All four Conn crews showed significant improvement over last week's performances after a productive week of practices on the Thames River. The fourth varsity 8 raced in the third varsity event due to its specific event being cancelled. The crew finished fourth in the event placing ahead of the Clark's third varsity crew. 

The program will be back in action next weekend in Worcester for racing against Clark, Colby, Trinity and WPI.
