NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's volleyball team secured a 3-0 victory in its home opener against Elms College on Wednesday night at Luce Field House.
The Camels, who hit a season-high .361 and improved to 5-0 overall, won by set scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-8.
Katherine Randall (Chicago, Ill.) racked up a match-high nine kills on 18 swings, and
Zoe Watts (Chicago, Ill.) and
Mila Chan (San Francisco, Calif.) added five kills apiece.
In the opening set, Elms kept it close early until Conn took the lead for good with four straight points to open a 9-6 lead. The Camels later pumped the margin to as many as 12 following an ace by
Caroline Festersen (Omaha, Neb.) that made it 22-10. The Blazers didn't help their own cause, committing seven attack errors and five service errors in the set.
Conn seized the lead in the second set with an early 5-0 run that included a pair of kills by Randall. Later,
Amanda Kreidler (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) capped a 10-3 stretch with a kill that yielded a 19-10 advantage. Kriedler finished with three kills in her first action of the season, including one on set point that put the Camels up 2-0 in the match.
Conn erupted with a 14-2 start in the third set and never looked back.
Sarah Woodhouse (Santa Barbara, Calif.) provided three consecutive service aces during the stretch while
Josie Kelly (Solana Beach, Calif.) added a pair. The Camels put a stamp on the match with kills by Woodhouse,
Evie Lockwood Mullaney (Larkspur, Calif.) and Watts to sew up the final three points.
Kelly finished with a match-high 19 assists while
Riley Lord (Exeter, N.H.) paced the Camels with five digs. Elms (0-7 overall) was led by four kills by Alysha Izquierdo.
Conn will next play a tri-match at Coast Guard Academy on Saturday, September 14. The Camels will take on Worcester State at 1 p.m. and the host Bears at 3 p.m.
