WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's volleyball team powered to a 3-0 victory over the University of Saint Joseph on Tuesday night in a non-conference clash at James A. Calhoun Gym.
The Camels, who hit a season-high .376 in the match, dominated the Blue Jays by set scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-12. Nine players from Conn finished with multiple kills, led by a match-high nine from
Mila Chan (San Francisco, Calif.).
Josie Kelly (Solana Beach, Calif.),
Katherine Randall (Chicago, Ill.),
Evie Lockwood Mullaney (Needham, Mass.) and
Zoe Watts (Chicago, Ill.) all recorded five kills apiece. Kelly, who was perfect on five swings, also handed out 20 assists.
The Camels finished with a season-high 16 service aces on the night. Lockwood Mullaney,
Rae Wartelle (Tacoma, Wash.) and
Sarah Woodhouse (Santa Barbara, Calif.) contributed three apiece to lead the charge at the service stripe.
In the opening set, Conn used a 9-1 run to break things open and never looked back. Chan recorded all nine of her kills in the frame and played just the lone set. A 5-0 start to the second set gave the Camels plenty of breathing room, and Randall and
Riley Lord (Exeter, N.H.) each supplied three kills to pace the offense. The final stanza was highlighted by five kills from Watts, as Conn never trailed after a 4-0 start.
Rachel Heaney led Saint Joseph (0-7 overall) with seven kills.
Conn (7-1 overall) will open NESCAC play at Middlebury College on Friday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m.
