Men's Soccer Cruises Past Colby 2-0

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Connecticut College men's soccer team used two second half goals to defeat host Colby College 2-0 on Saturday from Serdjenian Field. With the win, Conn moves to 3-1-2 on the year and 1-1-2 in NESCAC play, while Colby falls to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

The opening half generated few chances, however Conn had the better of the opportunities. Although Colby recorded the first shot of the contest four and a half minutes in, Conn had three corner kicks in the opening 10 minutes, but the Camels were unable to capitalize.

Gavin Mpiana (Cape Town, South Africa) had the first shot for Conn, coming in the 15th minute, but his effort went wide. With just over 15 minutes left in the opening half, Jake Creus (Madrid, Spain) notched the first shot on target for either side, but Brendan McCarthy came up with the save, as the game remained scoreless at the break.

Early in the second half, Conn had a glorious chance to open the scoring, earning a freekick, and the Camels took advantage. Sam Boehm (Lexington, Mass.) put the freekick into the box, connecting with the head of Charlie Miles (Tarrytown, N.Y.) who headed the ball back across goal, where Dylan Hoke (Westport, Conn.) pounced, putting Conn up 1-0 at 46:25.

Both teams traded chances for most of the second half, before Conn was able to double the lead with 11 minutes left. Matt Scoffone (Thornton, Pa.) had open space and let a shot fly from outside the box, beating McCarthy low to the far post, making it 2-0 Camels.

Conn outshot Colby 11-5 overall and 6-0 on shots on target, while Colby held a 6-5 edge on corner kicks.

Peter Silvester (Smiths Parish, Bermuda) got the start in goal and faced no shots. Hoke and Scoffone both tallied one goal, while Miles added an assist.

McCarthy made four saves in goal for Colby, while Jacob Sams paced the Mules with two shots.

Conn continues their road trip on Tuesday afternoon, as the Camels travel to Springfield, Mass. to take on Western New England at 4 p.m.
