Men's Soccer Earns Hard-Fought 0-0 Draw at No. 2 Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Connecticut College men's soccer team earned a crucial 0-0 draw against #2 Middlebury on Saturday from South Street Field. With the draw, Conn moves to 4-1-3 on the year and 1-1-3 on conference play, while Middlebury moves to 6-0-2 overall and 3-0-2 in NESCAC play.

Conn started fast, recording the first two shots of the contest. Elliot Spatz (Bellevue, Wash.) forced a save just 2:31 into the contest, before Marco Perugini (Medway, Mass.) had a shot go wide.

Middlebury answered with three of the next four shots, with two blocked and the third stopped by Peter Silvester (Smiths Parish, Bermuda). Each team ended the half with one more shot, as the Panthers effort missed high, while Jake Creus (Madrid, Spain) was stopped, as the game was scoreless at the break.

The defensive battle continued into the second half with just one shot in the opening 26 minutes. The lone shot for either side came from the Camels, as Sam Boehm (Lexington, Mass.) had his effort stopped.

The energy picked up in the final 20 minutes, as the teams combined for nine more shot attempts. Middlebury had three shots blocked, while the final two chances were saved by Silvester. On the other hand, Conn generated four shots, with one being blocked, one going high, and both Christian Perugini (Medway, Mass.) and Rye Jaran (Downingtown, Pa.) forcing saves from Joey Waterman. Neither side broke through, as the game ended in the scoreless draw.

Both teams tallied nine total shots, while Conn held a 5-3 edge on shots on target, with both sides earning four corner kicks.

Silvester got the start in goal, recording three saves. Spatz and Christian Perugini both led the way with two shots and one on target, while Boehm, Creus, and Jaran all added one shot on target as well.

Waterman made five saves in goal for Middlebury, while three different Panthers recorded one shot on target.

Conn finally returns home on Wednesday afternoon, as the Camels host Trinity in a NESCAC matchup on Freeman Field at 4:00 p.m.
