Men's Hockey Falls to Manhattanville in Non-Conference Finale

PURCHASE, N.Y.– The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team wrapped up non-conference action on Tuesday night, falling to host Manhattanville 5-2 from Playland Ice Casino. With the loss, Conn falls to 6-5-1, while Manhattanville improves to 4-8-1.

Manhattanville opened the game on the front foot, jumping out to a 2-0 lead just 3:15 in. Nicholas Rogers got the Valiants on the board at 1:44, before Mitchell Watson doubled the Manhattanville advantage. Conn slowly built their way back into the contest, but were unable to cut into the deficit, trailing 2-0 after one.

The Camels came out strong to start the middle frame, but were held at bay by William Billequey. However, just past the eight minute mark, Conn was awarded a power play. On the ensuing man-advantage the Camels took advantage as Quinn Kennedy (Silver Spring, Md.) fired home a one-timer from the top of the circle, as William Tripp (Lakeville, Mass.) and Andrew Eberling (Mount Laurel, N.J.) picked up the assists.

Just two minutes later, Conn evened the scoring. Michael DiMascolo (Cranston, R.I.) won a face-off to Matt Lewis (Pembroke, Mass.) who found Devan Newhook (Saint Johns, Newfoundland) at the point, who fired on net, where Wade Volo (North Conway, N.H.) tipped home the shot at 10:42. Manhattanville retook the lead with three and a half minutes remaining as Rogers tallied his second goal of the game, as the Valiants led 3-2 heading to the third.

Conn had an early chance to even the score in the third period, as the Camels were awarded a power play just shy of three minutes in. Jack Houser (Arlington, Mass.) and Will Lawrence (Bethesda, Md.) both put shots on goal with the extra skater, but were unable to convert. Manhattanville pushed the lead back to two just past the midway point, as Tristan D'Elia tipped a shot home. Just three minutes later, while on the power play, the Valiants pushed the lead to 5-2 as Rogers completed his hat trick.

Conn outshot Manhattanville 31-25, while winning 41 of 72 face-offs.

Kellen Beauton (Colchester, Conn.) got the start in goal, finishing with 20 saves.Kennedy and Volo both recorded one goal, while Eberling, Lewis, Newhook, and Tripp all added one assist. John Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) led the way in the face-off circle winning 12 draws with Lewis winning ning, while Conn finished 1-3 on the power play and 1-2 on the penalty kill.

Billequey got the start in goal, recording 29 saves. Rogers led Manhattanville with three goals, while Artem Mateichenko added three assists. The Valiants finished 1-2 on the power play and 2-3 on the penalty kill.

Conn returns to NESCAC action on Friday night, as the Camels host Amherst at 7:00 p.m. in Dayton Arena.
