WBB Wins Non-Conference Finale at Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team wrapped up non-conference play with a 67-51 victory over Clark University on Tuesday night at the Kneller Athletic Center.

The Camels, who led from the opening basket until the final buzzer, blew the game open with a 25-point third quarter. Hayle Thompson (Maynard, Mass.) led all scorers with 16 points and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor. Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.), Sydney Marshall (Enfield, Conn.) and Avery Burns (Orleans, Mass.) chipped in eight points apiece as Conn shot 42 percent for the game.

Conn opened the game with an 8-1 run that included three straight buckets by Thompson. The Camels led 15-9 by the end of the period after limiting the Cougars to just 1-for-11 shooting. 

Thompson added six more points in the second quarter as the Camels continued to pound the ball down low. Conn finished the half with a 20-6 edge in points in the paint and led 28-23 at the break. Clark, which shot 5-for-27 in the half, hung around by going 11-for-14 at the charity stripe.

The Camels came out hot to start the second half, reeling off 11 straight points to bump the lead to double digits. Conn shot 11-for-15 in the third quarter alone and outscored the Cougars 25-10. Burns led the charge with eight points in the period, and the visitors led 53-33 heading into the fourth quarter. 

Charlotte Head (Holden, Mass.) paced the Camels on the glass with a game-high nine rebounds. Thompson also grabbed eight boards, and Mia Xerras (Charlotte, N.C.) and Catie Hurley (Walpole, Mass.) each handed out five assists.

Conn finished the non-conference slate with a 10-4 mark. Cyriah Coleman paced Clark (8-6 overall) with 15 points. 

Conn (10-6 overall, 0-2 NESCAC) will next host Middlebury College on Friday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m.
