HADLEY, Mass. – Connecticut College junior
Elias Espinosa (Leonia, N.J.) was named New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Co-Player of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
Espinosa, who earned the distinction for the first time in his career, averaged a team-high 23.0 points per game and tallied 10 rebounds, three assists, and five steals in a 2-0 weekend for the Camels. He shares the honor with Wesleyan University senior Shane Regan.
Espinosa scored 23 points and added six rebounds and four steals in a road win over Middlebury College, securing Conn's third-straight win in the series. The forward added a game-high 23 points to go with four boards, three assists, and a steal in Conn's first win over Williams College since the 2000 season. He also shot 50 percent (15-for-30) from the floor and 56 percent (9-for16) from three-point range for the week.
In 18 games and 17 starts this season, Espinosa is averaging a team-high 15.8 points per contest and has scored in double digits 15 times. He currently leads the NESCAC with 56 three-pointers and ranks seventh in the conference in scoring.
Conn (11-7 overall, 3-1 NESCAC) will next play at Tufts University on Saturday, January 25 at 3:00 p.m.
