MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team opened up action in 2025, falling to host Wesleyan University 2-0 Saturday afternoon from Spurrier-Snyder Rink. With the loss, Conn falls to 3-5 overall, while Wesleyan improves to 4-6.
Wesleyan opened the contest quickly, forcing a save from Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) just seven seconds in. Conn answered half a minute later with their first shot on net, but Serena Seiple (Wilmette, Ill.) was turned aside by Jenna Guglielmi. The Camels had the only power play of the period, but were unable to take advantage of the extra skater as the game remained scoreless after one.
Conn opened the middle frame on the front foot, but Guglielmi came up with four saves in the first two and a half minutes of the period. The teams traded chances for much of the period, but both goalies stayed perfect. The Camels had two good looks down the stretch, but Galen Kilfeather (Wyndmoor, Pa.) was stopped and Alana Burm (Hingham, Mass.) had her shot blocked in the final 15 seconds, as the game headed to the third still scoreless.
Wesleyan opened the final frame with an early power play, but Galizio shut the door, keeping the Cardinals off the board. However, after Conn failed to convert with the extra skater, Wesleyan opened the scoring, ending the Camels shutout streak at 251:55. Aimee Seppenwolde scored an unassisted marker at 6:40 to make it 1-0. Conn pushed, but with just over five minutes remaining, Wesleyan doubled the lead. Dylan Green and Sam DeLeo picked up assists as Sam Galanek found the back of the net at 14:45 to make it 2-0. With two minutes left in the game, the Camels pulled Galizio for the extra skater, but were unable to cut into the deficit, falling 2-0.
Conn outshot Wesleyan 43-29, while holding a slim 29-24 edge on face-off wins.
Galizio got the start in goal, recording 27 saves on 29 shots. Sofia Donnelly (Ringwood, N.J.) and Claire Sammons (Naperville, Ill.) paced Conn with six shots on goal, while seven other Camels tallied at least three shots on goal. Charlotte Harris (Ystrad Mynach, Walex) led the way winning 12 of 19 draws, while Conn finished the afternoon 3-3 on the penalty kill and 0-5 on the power play.
Guglielmi picked up the win in goal, stopping all 43 shots faced. Galanek and Seppenwolde both recorded one goal, while DeLeo and Green each added an assist. Wesleyan finished the contest 0-3 on the power play and 5-5 on the penalty kill.
Conn returns to action on Tuesday afternoon, as the Camels host Suffolk University at 2:00 p.m. in Dayton Arena.
