CLINTON, N.Y. — The Connecticut College field hockey team fell by a 1-0 final to No. 10 Hamilton College on Saturday afternoon in a NESCAC meeting at Goodfriend Field.
Becky Felker scored the game's lone goal just 10:06 into the contest, and the Continentals held off the Camels the rest of the way to improve to 9-3 overall (4-3 NESCAC). It marked the fourth time this season that Conn has dropped a one-goal decision to a nationally-ranked opponent.
Hamilton's goal came off a penalty corner in which Felker threaded a shot through traffic from the left side that slipped inside the far post. The Camels had two shot attempts in the half—both of which went wide—as the Continentals took the 1-0 lead into intermission.
Conn produced a pair of quality chances to equalize in the final 6:00 of the third quarter. On the first, a shot by
Megan Pons (Charlotte, N.C.) was saved by goalie Kelly Janssen, and just over a minute later
Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) sailed her attempt over the top of the cage.
The Camels nearly scored on a two-on-one rush early in the fourth, but Janssen came out of the crease to snuff out the break at the top of the scoring circle. Later, Conn earned a penalty corner with 11:17 to go that resulted in a shot that was off the mark.
Hamilton finished with a 17-5 advantage in total shots. Janssen and Abby Griffin combined for one save in the shutout for the Continentals, while
Isabella Carnall (Malvern, Pa.) recorded seven saves in goal for the Camels.
Conn (4-6 overall, 1-6 NESCAC) will next host WPI on Tuesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m.
