NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College men's water polo team returned to Lott Natatorium for the first time in 2025, falling to Division 1 Iona 19-10 on Monday night.

Iona started the game fast, firing off the first six shots of the contest. Sebastian Parilov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made four saves, while Matthew Maischoss (Malibu, Calif.) added a field block, before the sixth effort found the back of the net. The Gaels notched the next two goals, to extend the lead to 3-0, before Jesse Ellis (Fresno, Calif.) converted on a penalty shot to make it 3-1 with 1:41 to play. Iona answered with a late tally to lead 4-1 after one.

Iona opened the second quarter with a 3-0 run in the first two minutes to push the lead to 7-1. Maischoss ended the run just over 10 seconds later, before back-to-back goals from Carson Neidert (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Zach Dixon (Wayne, Pa.) cut the deficit to 7-4. The Gaels ended the quarter with two more markers to take a 9-4 lead into the break.

Iona used two quick goals early in the third quarter to extend the lead to 11-4. The teams traded the final nine goals of the quarter, with the Gaels outscoring the Camels 5-4 in the rest of the frame. For Conn, Topher Cook (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Parilov both notched one goal, while Ellis chipped in two, as the Camels trailed 16-8 heading to the fourth.

Iona and Conn traded one goal apiece two and a half minutes into the final quarter, as Ellis found the back of the net for the Camels. Just 30 seconds later, Ellis again scored, as Conn cut the deficit to 17-10. Iona answered with two more goals to come away with the 19-10 win.

Parilov got the start in goal, recording nine saves in the first half, before being replaced by Artem Kyselov who made four saves in 17 minutes in the second half, before Isaac Merwin (Houston, Texas) closed out the game in net. Ellis paced the Conn attack with five goals and one assist, while five other Camels recorded one goal each.

Conn returns to action on Friday, Nov. 7th, as the Camels head to Norton, Mass. for four games, beginning with a game against Wheaton at 7:00 p.m.
