BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Connecticut College men's cross country team finished 28th out of 45 teams at the Paul Short Run on Friday afternoon at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
In a strong field that included 10 nationally-ranked programs, No. 13 NYU placed five runners in the top 20 and took home the team title with 54 points. No. 25 Amherst (101) and No. 15 Carnegie Mellon (183) rounded out the top three, and Colorado College's Will Shuflit crossed the tape in 24:04.9 to secure individual medalist honors.
The Camels, who moved up four spots on the team leaderboard over the final 1.7K, checked in with 834 points.
Ellis Iurilli-Hough (Melrose, Mass.) led the squad with a time of 25:17.9 and finished 49th overall in the field of 407 runners. He blazed up the standings over the first half of the race, passing 200 runners between the one-mile and 5K markers. He also finished strong, overtaking 27 additional competitors before the finish line.
Brendan Capodanno (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and
Ronan Staab (White Plains, N.Y.) were the next to finish for the Camels. Capodanno clocked in at 26:10.3 and placed 143rd while Staab was close behind in 162nd with a time of 26:18.9. Both made significant gains after the one-mile mark, as the former made up 143 places and the latter climbed 160 spots.
Rounding out the scoring for the Camels were
Alex Santos Acosta (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and
Nicholas DeMarco (Albany, N.Y.). Santos Acosta checked in at 27:14.9 and placed 282nd while DeMarco followed in 27:18.0 and finished 288th.
Deem Quinn (Cranston, R.I.) and
Josh Barzilai (Princeton, N.J.) rounded out Conn's top-7, clocking in with times of 27:40.1 and 27:40.3, respectively.
Conn will next compete at the James Earley Invitational on Saturday, October 11 at 10:30 a.m.
