BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The No. 14 Connecticut College women's cross country team finished seventh out of 45 teams at the Paul Short Run on Friday afternoon at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
One of the top Division III races of the season, the Paul Short Run featured a field of 14 nationally-ranked women's programs. No. 5 NYU finished atop the standings with a team score of 55 points, well ahead of No. 7 Carnegie Mellon (157) and No. 12 SUNY Geneseo (197). RPI's Jules Bleskoski took home individual medalist honors with a time of 20:20.8 over the 6K course, besting her nearest competitor by nearly seven seconds.
Grace McDonough (Londonderry, N.H.) and
Kiera Tallas (Fountain Valley, Calif.) led the charge for the Camels, who climbed three spots in the team standings over the back half of the race. Conn finished with 236 points and had a spread of 1:17 between its top-5 runners.
McDonough turned in a time of 21:22.3, good enough for 11th place overall in the field of 404 runners. She steadily climbed the leaderboard throughout the race, gaining 19 positions between the first- and second-mile markers and another 10 spots by the finish line.
Tallas also charged up the standings, making up 46 places over the second mile and another 51 before the finish. She clocked in with a personal-best time of 21:46.1 and finished 20th overall.
Abby Williams (Waterville, Maine),
Alexa Estes (Virginia Beach, Va.) and
Alsacia Timmerman (Morrisville, Vt.) completed Conn's top-5. Williams finished 44th with a time of 22:08.6 and picked off 47 runners after the first mile marker, and Estes took 80th place with a personal-best time of 22:36.6. Timmerman was right on her heels with a time of 22:39.3 and finished 84th.
April Schilling (Amherst, Mass.) and
Julia Coyle (Pomfret Center, Conn.) rounded out Conn's top-7 with times of 22:57.9 and 23:58.3, respectively. Schilling finished 124th while Coyle placed 240th.
Conn will next compete at the James Earley Invitational on Saturday, October 11 at 10:30 a.m.
