SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Connecticut College women's tennis team took part in the Springfield Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Appleton Tennis Courts.
The Camels joined the host Pride and the Lions of Emerson College for a day of doubles and singles competition. Conn came away with victories in the top doubles draw as well as four of the seven singles draws.
The duo of
Teagan Skulley (Middleton, Mass.) and
Marylove Reynolds (Little Rock, Ark.) went 2-0 to win the doubles A draw. They bested Emerson's top tandem by a 6-4 final in the opening round, and then finished the day with a 6-4 win against Springfield's No. 1 squad in the finals.
In singles action, both
Mary Ella Prendergast (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) and Skulley advanced to the finals of the A and B draws, respectively. However, Prendergast lost by an 8-0 count to Springfield's No. 1 while Skulley fell 8-4 to Emerson's No. 2.
The Camels dominated the C, D, E and F draws with a combined record of 9-1. Reynolds won the C draw with an 8-0 victory over Emerson and an 8-6 triumph over Springfield.
Sana Bhat (New Delhi, India) bested Springfield 8-3 in the D draw before taking out teammate
Nicolette Baksay (Colonia, N.J.) by an 8-5 count in the finals.
Sydney Concepcion (Long Beach, Calif.) and
Taylor Mastrogiovanni (Topsfield, Mass.) also went 2-0 to win the E and F draws, respectively.
Conn will play its first home match of the season against Endicott College on Sunday, October 5 at noon.
