Water Polo Tops Wheaton on Senior Night

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's water polo team picked up a 16-12 victory over Wheaton College on Friday night in its final regular season home game at Lott Natatorium.

Eleven Camels found the back of the net on the night, led by four goals from Jeffrey Harrington (San Diego, Calif.). Jesse Ellis (Fresno, Calif.) added two goals and three assists while Matthew Maischoss (Malibu, Calif.) also chipped in a pair of scores. Sebastian Parilov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal and made 10 saves on the night.

Spyros Rapsomanikis paced Wheaton (1-17 overall) with five goals and two assists while Michael Ruemelin and Charles Jacoby added two goals apiece.

The Camels jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a 5-meter penalty shot by Brevin Master (Burlingame, Calif.) and a tally by Cully MacPherson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the opening minutes. Zach Dixon (Wayne, Pa.) and Harrington added scores to make it a 4-2 lead, and Harrington tacked on a pair of goals in the final two minutes of the period to extend the margin to 6-2.

In the second quarter, goals by Thomas McDonough (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and Maischoss gave the Camels their biggest lead of the half at 8-2. The Lyons responded with the final three goals of the half—all from Rapsomanikis—to cut the deficit to 8-5 at intermission.

Goals by Maischoss and Ethan Hipsky (Glastonbury, Conn.) bumped the lead to five in the early stages of the second half. Conn outscored Wheaton by a 5-2 margin in the third quarter, with Paul Podrebarac (Friendswood, Texas), Ellis and Carson Neidert (West Palm Beach, Fla.) filling out the scoring column.

Wheaton gained some ground in the fourth, but not enough to make a significant difference. Harrington, Parilov and Ellis added markers in the final stanza as the Camels finished with 16 goals on 35 shots.

Prior to the match the Camels honored eight seniors—Maischoss, Parilov, Master, MacPherson, Neidert, Isaac Merwin, Graham Stuart and Adam Teryek—in a special ceremony.

Conn (4-13 overall) will wrap up the season at the MPSF Championship on November 21-23 in Stanford, Calif.
