Seiple's Overtime Winner Lifts Women's Hockey Past Williams 2-1

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Serena Seiple (Willmete, Ill.) scored a minute into overtime to lift the Connecticut College women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 win on Friday night from Lansing Chapman Rink. With the win Conn improves to 9-9-1 overall and 5-7-1 in conference play, while Williams falls to 9-8-1 on the year and 3-7-1 in NESCAC play.

Conn came out of the gates flying, but were unable to get any shots on net, before Williams got the first shot on goal that was stopped by Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) made the save. The Camels continued their strong start, forcing six saves from Erin Pye during an early power play. With just over four minutes left in the period, Conn opened the scoring as Ashley Engle (Basking Ridge, N.J.) connected with Casey Chesner (Great Falls, Va.) who fired home to give the Camels a 1-0 lead after one.

Williams started the middle frame strong, earning an early power play, but Galizio was sharp keeping the Ephs at bay. Williams continued to put shots towards the Camels goal, but Galizio and the Conn defense held strong, as the Camels remained in front 1-0 heading to the third.

WIlliams finally broke through just 2:23 into the final period, as Lucie Bond found the back of the net off assists from Maddie Zack and Katie Armstrong. Just under a minute later, the Ephs nearly took the lead as Zoe Rosenberg rang a shot off the post. Conn was able to regain some momentum, eventually earning a five minute power play with just over three minutes remaining. However, the Camels were unable to convert during regulation, as the game headed to overtime.

Conn won the opening face-off of the extra session before Elizabeth Bonner (Westfield, N.J.) fired an early shot wide. However, just past the minute mark, the Camels earned the extra point. Kiley Smith (Humble, Texas) and Kate Hagness (Middletown, Conn.) found Seiple who fired a shot in off the underside of the crossbar to give the Camels the 2-1 win.

Williams outshot Conn 27-23 while the Camels held a 29-24 edge on face-off wins.

Galizio continued her strong play in net, finishing with 26 saves. Chesner and Seiple both tallied one goal, while Engle, Hagness, and Smith all chipped in one assist. Charlotte Harris (Ystrad Mynach, Wales) led the way in the face-off circle, winning 10 draws, while Conn finished 1-2 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill.

Pye got the start in net finishing with 21 saves. Bond tallied the lone Ephs goal, with Armstrong and Zack both adding an assist, while Williams finishing 1-5 on the power play and 1-2 on the penalty kill.
