Men's LAX Falls in Opener vs. No. 1 Tufts

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team opened the 2025 season with an 18-7 setback against No. 1 Tufts University on a chilly Saturday night at Silfen Field.

The Jumbos set the tone early, outscoring the Camels 9-2 in the opening quarter to build a sizable lead. The defending national champions went on to add four more goals to lead 13-3 at the break, and in the second half they held a 5-4 edge to close out the victory.

Jack Regnery finished with six goals and an assist to lead Tufts (1-0 overall, 1-0 NESCAC). Max Ettinghausen added three goals and a helper while Beau Keough tacked on a pair of scores.

Andrew Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) paced the Camels with two goals and a pair of assists in his collegiate debut. JJ Ford (Clinton, Conn.) also tacked on two goals while Patrick Atkins (Topsfield, Mass.), Ryan Breheny (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Aidan McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) supplied one apiece.

Early scores by Ben Frisoli and Regnery jump started Tufts to a quick 2-0 advantage. Rainville then cut the deficit in half with his first collegiate tally, but the Jumbos countered with six straight goals to break the game open. Regnery added two goals during the stretch and had a hat trick with 4:00 to go in the first quarter.

Regnery opened the second quarter with a pair of goals as the Tufts lead reached double digits at 12-2. His final score came in the third quarter to extend the lead to 16-4.

Conn kept the Jumbos off the scoreboard in the fourth as Ford, McAvoy and Breheny all found the back of the cage.

Patrick Hogan (Wyckoff, N.J.) got the start in goal for the Camels and finished with 15 saves in 45 minutes of action. Will Vivian (Slingerlands, N.Y.) played the final quarter and made two stops.

Conn (0-1 overall, 0-1 NESCAC) will next play at Western Connecticut State University on Tuesday, March 4 at 6:00 p.m.
