Men's LAX Falls Short vs. #14 Middlebury

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-8 final to No. 14 Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon in a NESCAC clash at Silfen Field.

Nine different Panthers scored in the contest, with Patrick Jamin leading the way with two goals and a pair of assists. Hayden Kern made seven saves in the cage to secure the win. Aidan McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) and Isaiah Kozub (Wilbraham, Mass.) each netted a pair of goals to pace the Camels.

Middlebury (3-4 overall, 2-2 NESCAC) used an early offensive burst to take control, scoring four goals in a 4:51 span to grab a 4-0 advantage. Cooper DeMallie got things started at the 12:32 mark with his first marker of the day, and Logan White capped the stretch with a tally with 8:09 left in the opening quarter.

McAvoy put the Camels on the scoreboard with an unassisted effort late in the period. However, the visitors scored three times in the first three minutes of the second quarter to go up 7-1.

Conn spent the rest of the half fighting its way back into the game. The Camels outscored the Panthers 3-1 over the final 9:22 of the stanza, getting goals from Andrew Rainville (Watertown, Conn.), JJ Ford (Clinton, Conn.) and Ryan Breheny (Bridgewater, Mass.) to bring the deficit to 8-4 by intermission.

The Camels came out hot to start the second half. McAvoy scored off a rebound from right in front of the crease to get the ball rolling. Minutes later, Kozub made it an 8-6 game off a feed from Liam Horkan (Malden, Mass.).

Middlebury put a stop to Conn's momentum with another 4-0 spurt, padding the lead back to six at 12-6. The Camels responded with a goal by Chris Travers (Mill Valley, Calif.) to end the third and another by Kozub to start the fourth, but the hosts couldn't make up the margin.

Will Vivian (Slingerlands, N.Y.) got the starting nod in goal for the Camels and finished with nine saves. Travers and Dylan McGuirk (Norwell, Mass.) each scooped up a team-high four ground balls.

Conn (3-3 overall, 1-3 NESCAC) will next host Salve Regina University on Tuesday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m.
