GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Connecticut College women's water polo team returned to action competing in four games over the weekend at Grove City College.

GAME 1: Austin 10, Conn 5

The opening quarter was a back-and-forth affair, as Conn opened the scoring with a tally from Emma Luna (Wahiawa, Hawaii) just over a minute in. Austin answered to even the score at one, before Ainsley Cornwall (San Mateo, Calif.) put the Camels back in front. Again the Roos answered, but a goal from Carly Schneider had Conn in front 3-2 after one. Luna pushed the lead to 4-2 early in the second, before Austin cut the deficit to 4-3 at the break.

The Roos evened the score early in the third quarter, before back-to-back strikes put Austin in front 6-4 heading to the fourth. Luna found the back of the net 38 seconds into the final frame making it 6-5, but Austin ended the game on a 4-0 run to earn the 10-5 win.

Augustana opened the second game of the day, with a 4-0 run, before Melia Lorch (Encinitas, Calif.) got Conn on the board with three minutes to play. The Vikings added one more goal late in the period to lead 5-1 after the first. Both defenses stepped it up in the second quarter, as Augustana tallied the lone goal of the frame to take a 6-1 lead into the break.

The third quarter was much like the second, as the Vikings tallied the only two goals, both coming in the final two minutes of the quarter, leading 8-1 heading to the third. During the run, Luna recorded two goals, while both Cornwall and Nagel chipped in another each. But a late goal from Macalester had Conn in front 6-3 at the break.

Anna Taylor (Pleasanton, Calif.) extended the lead to 7-3, before Luna completed her hat trick to make it 8-3 with 5:12 to play in the quarter. But again, another late tally from the Scots cut into the deficit, as the Camels led 8-4 heading to the fourth. Macalester answered with a big final quarter, scoring four times in the first four minutes to knot the score at eight apiece to send the game to overtime. In overtime, the Scots tallied all three goals to earn the 11-8 win.
