Men's LAX Falls to No. 8 Wesleyan in Season Finale

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team dropped a 19-9 decision to No. 8 Wesleyan University on Wednesday night in the final regular season game of the season at Silfen Field.

CK Giancola led the Cardinals with six goals and an assist on the night. Wesleyan improved to 10-4 overall with the victory and finished 7-3 in NESCAC play.

JJ Ford (Clinton, Conn.) paced the Camels with two goals and an assist while Aidan McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) chipped in a goal and a helper. Goalie Patrick Hogan (Wyckoff, N.J.) made 10 saves in the setback.

Conn fell into an early 3-0 hole but fought its way back to a 4-3 lead by the end of the opening quarter. Liam Horkan (Malden, Mass.) got the Camels rolling with a tally at the 5:42 mark, and just over a minute later Andrew Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) followed suit off an assist by McAvoy. Isaiah Kozub (Wilbraham, Mass.) later bullied his way to the cage for a score with 1:57 to go in the period, and McAvoy put the hosts on top with 22 seconds left in the stanza.  

Wesleyan outscored Conn 6-1 in the second quarter to seize control. The Cardinals scored twice in the final minute of the half to make it a 9-5 game, with Ben Burns supplying a man-up marker and James Bailey netting a goal in the final seconds.

Giancola scored four goals in the second half as Wesleyan extended the lead to double digits. Goalie Conor Selfridge did his part with 10 saves in nearly 54 minutes in the cage.

Colter Lingelbach-Pierce (Etna, N.H.), Dylan McGuirk (Norwell, Mass.), Ford and Myles Newport (Oakville, Ontario) all scored for the Camels after intermission. Ford finished his career ranked 10th all-time at Conn in career goals (99). 

Nick McLaughlin (Wilbraham, Mass.) picked up a season-high seven ground balls to lead all players. Aidan Gaudet (Cheshire, Conn.) finished with four ground balls and went 14-for-28 at the face-off spot.

Conn finished the season with an overall record of 7-8 (2-8 NESCAC).
