NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Connecticut College women's volleyball team swept past Eastern Connecticut State University by a 3-0 final on Wednesday night in a non-conference showdown at Luce Field House.
Conn won by set scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-18 to earn its third straight win against the Warriors, who dropped to 7-2 overall.
Riley Lord (Exeter, N.H.) hit .519 with match highs of 14 kills and 11 digs and added three blocks to pace the Camels.
Rae Wartelle (Tacoma, Wash.) chipped in 10 kills while
Zoe Watts (Chicago, Ill.) tacked on a season-high nine.
The Camels got off to a strong start, securing the first five points en route to an early 11-4 advantage. The trio of Lord, Wartelle and Watts combined for 13 of Conn's 15 kills in the stanza, and the hosts earned five of the final six points to grab a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Warriors fell into a 5-1 hole in the second but eventually rallied back to within 12-11 on the serve of Samantha Blandford, who turned in three straight aces. The Camels never lost the lead, however, and down the stretch a block by
Vibha Sheth (Austin, Texas) and
Taylor Chatigny (Naples, Fla.) brought about set point.
Conn used another runaway start in the third to seal the victory.
Taylor Merrifield (Honolulu, Hawaii) served the Camels out to a 7-0 lead, and
Jocelyn Bickford (West Newbury, Mass.) extended the margin to 12-1 to take the steam out of the Warriors. Lord carried the offense with nine kills in the final set alone.
Sheth finished the night with four blocks while Wartelle added three.
Aubrie Letourneau (Mattapoisett, Mass.) fueled the offense with 30 assists and a pair of kills.
Emma Robinson led the way for the Warriors with eight kills and four digs.
