Volleyball Falls 3-0 at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Connecticut College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Trinity College on Friday evening at Ray Oosting Gymnasium.

All three sets were tightly contested, although the Bantams came out on top by tallies of 25-21, 25-23 and 27-25. Maggie Barnes and Sarah Jeremias paced Trinity (8-3 overall, 1-2 NESCAC) with 10 kills apiece.

Riley Lord (Exeter, N.H.) led the Camels with eight kills and Vibha Sheth (Austin, Texas) added seven. Aubrie Letourneau (Mattapoisett, Mass.) handed out 24 assists while Taylor Merrifield (Honolulu, Hawaii) supplied a match-high 18 digs.

Conn fell behind 13-4 in the opening set but rallied back behind a 9-1 run that included a kill and two blocks from Sheth. The Camels never got closer than two, however, as the Bantams closed out the set on a kill by Barnes.

Another quick start by the hosts yielded a 4-1 advantage in the second. Conn eventually tied the score at 10-10 and led by as many as three, but down the stretch it was Trinity that came away with crucial points. The Bantams took four of the final five points to capture the set and a 2-0 edge in the match.

Barnes propelled Trinity to the sweep with five kills in the final stanza. Conn led 24-23 when back-to-back kills from Ellie Gordon and Emma Ewart put the Bantams back in front. Letourneau tied the match with a kill on the ensuing rally, but the hosts got another big swing from Ewart before securing match point on an attack error.

Conn (4-6 overall, 0-3 NESCAC) will next host Wesleyan University on Thursday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m.
