WBB Falls to No. 10 Bowdoin

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team dropped a 67-43 decision to No. 10 Bowdoin College on Saturday afternoon at Luce Field House.

Mia Xerras (Charlotte, N.C.) paced the Camels with 11 points and added four points, two assists and a steal in the setback. Sydney Marshall (Enfield, Conn.) also reached double figures with 10 points and tallied six boards, a block and a steal.

Bowdoin (11-1 overall, 2-0 NESCAC) improved to 7-0 on the road as Grace Kinum and Abbie Quinn each contributed 16 points. Melissa Leone chipped in 12 points off the bench as the Polar Bears picked up their third straight victory.

Xerras and Marshall combined for all 14 of Conn's points in the opening quarter. The duo kept the Camels in front until a 12-2 spurt put the Polar Bears on top for good.

Conn kept within striking distance in the second quarter as Addi Hunter (Saint George, Vt.) and Xerras each drained triples. Later, Charlotte Head (Holden, Mass.) buried a jumper to make it a 31-24 game with 5:01 left in the period. However, Bowdoin closed the half with a 9-2 run to lead 40-26 at the break.

Leone led all scorers with 12 points at intermission. Xerras, who drained three treys in the half, netted all 11 of her points before intermission.

The Polar Bears extended the margin to as many as 28 in the second half, finishing the game with a 38-16 scoring edge in the paint. Bowdoin also turned 16 Conn turnovers into 21 points on the offensive end.

Conn (8-6 overall, 0-2 NESCAC) will next host Rhode Island College on Tuesday, January 13 at 5:00 p.m.
