NEW LONDON, Conn. – Connecticut College first year Sofia Tavarez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) was one of five women's basketball players named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, as announced by the popular website late Monday night.

The Team of the Week is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll, which recognizes the top performance at each of the five positions from the previous week. Tavarez, who is the first rookie to be recognized this season, was joined by Brianna Fitzgerald (New Paltz), Emily Garvin (Geneva), Emily Erickson (Bethel) and Mary Schleusner (Washington & Lee).

Tavarez is the sixth player in program history to earn TOTW honors, as well as the first since 2015. She joins a short list that includes Tara Gabelman (2014), Mairead Hynes (2015), Hope Maynard (2000), Jenn Shinall (2012) and Casey Thran (2005).

Tavarez came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points and added four rebounds, three assists and a steal in a 55-38 win over Tufts last week. Conn broke open a four-point game with a 15-0 run to start the fourth quarter, where the rookie scored or assisted eight points in the spurt to lead the Camels to their first win over the Jumbos since 2015 and their first win at Tufts since 1996.

Earlier on Monday, Tavarez was tabbed NESCAC Player of the Week for the first time in her career. She has played in all 18 games this season and ranks fourth in the NESCAC in scoring with a team-high 14.7 points per game. She has also scored 20 points or more in a game four times this season.

Conn (11-7 overall, 2-3 NESCAC) will next play at Trinity College on Friday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m.
