Men's Ice Hockey Downed by Middlebury

NEW LONDON, Conn.  – The Connecticut College men's hockey team closed out the weekend, falling to visiting Middlebury 4-0 on Saturday afternoon from Dayton Arena.

Middlebury started quickly, opening the scoring just 2:04 in, as Dante Palombo buried a rebound on a delayed Conn penalty. Midway through the period, the Panthers doubled their advantage on a power play goal from Luc Malkhassian at 11:32, to put Midd up 2-0 after one.

The Panthers extended the lead early in the middle frame, as Edward Moskowitz made it 3-0 at 1:31. Conn responded with a couple of chances, but the Camels were unable to break through. Conn continued to push looking to get on the board, but could not beat Andrew Heinze, as the Camels headed to the third down 3-0.

Middlebury again struck early in a period, as Tyler Wishart made it 4-0 at 5:58. Conn continued looking to get on the board, but were unable to solve Heinze, as the Camels fell 4-0.

Conn outshot Midd 32-27, while holding a 38-28 edge on face-off wins.

Will McEvoy (Ottawa, Ontario) got the start in net, finishing with 23 saves. Pete Stanger (Bathurst, New Brunswick) led the way with four shots on goal, while Arty Mirante (Garden City, N.Y.) won a team-high 17 face-offs. Conn finished 4-5 on the penalty kill and 0-3 on the power play.

Heinze got the win in goal, stopping all 32 shots. Malkhassian led the way with three points on one goal and two assists, while Palombo and Jackson Morehouse both added two points.

Conn (8-9-1, 4-7-1 NESCAC) heads back on the road, as the Camels travel to Medford, Mass. to take on Tufts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night.
